Why Should You Consider Dental Implants?
- When you lose a tooth you lose the root structure which normally prevents jawbone shrinkage causing your face to look older. Dental implants prevent this from happening as they provide the missing root structure.
- Because dental implants are placed into the bone they do not move around. They are stable and comfortable without the need for constant adjustments.
- Dental implants are permanent and will serve you for life.
What Does a Dental Implant Consist Of?

- The actual dental implant is a small screw which replaces the root portion of the missing tooth, in either the upper or lower jaws. Made of titanium, it fuses with the bone and becomes an anchor for the replacement tooth.
- The abutment (post) made of titanium, gold or porcelain connects the implant with the restorative tooth.
- The restorative tooth (crown) is made of porcelain and is either screwed or cemented to the abutment (and in some cases directly to the implant.
Implants are not only an option for patients who have just lost a tooth. Many people who undergo the implant procedure have removable dentures or bridges. They experience a dramatic improvement in their chewing ability and in their comfort level.
The Dental Implant Procedure
- When you arrive for your first appointment, we will use an X-ray to determine if your jaw bone is adequate to hold the posts. (Further procedures such as grafting might be necessary if it is found that there is inadequate bone structure).
- The bone is prepared with a special drill and the implant is placed into the the prepared area.
- The healing process (the time it take for the implant to fuse with the bone) will take 3 to 6 months.
- When the gum tissue is ready, the abutment (post) is attached to the implant.
- Impressions are made of the area which is to receive the new tooth (crown).
- When the crown is completed it is placed over the post and cemented.
the Dental Implants procedure takes meticulous planning for best results. Today the implants being placed often only require one surgical procedure using a local anesthetic and sedative.
Is Old Age a Problem?
Dr. Kamel explains that health is more of a determining factor than age. Certain chronic diseases may contraindicate dental implant treatment. At your free initial consultation, Dr. Kamel will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants after a careful evaluation of your dental and health history.
How will Dental Implants Affect My Life?
Your Dental implants will not only look but will feel and function like natural teeth. You will now be able to eat and drink anything you like without fear, dramatically improving the quality of your life.
